WHY CHOOSE THE DZONGRI TREK WITH THE GREAT HIKES ?

A More Meaningful Way to Experience the Himalayas

The Dzongri Trek is more than a journey to 4,200 metres. It is an immersion into the forests, landscapes, culture and immense mountain scenery of the Sikkim Himalaya. At The Great Hikes, we design the experience around thoughtful pacing, local knowledge and genuine Himalayan adventure.

Start from Darjeeling Base Camp

Your journey begins at our Darjeeling Base Camp, giving you a dedicated starting point for your Himalayan adventure. We take care of the transition from Darjeeling into the mountains of West Sikkim, allowing you to focus on the journey ahead.

Experienced Local Himalayan Leaders

Trek with experienced local leaders who understand the terrain, changing mountain conditions and the rhythm of Himalayan trails. Their knowledge adds depth, safety and confidence to your journey.

Carefully Planned Acclimatization

At high altitude, the journey matters as much as the destination. Our itinerary is structured with appropriate pacing and rest to help your body adapt as you climb toward Dzongri.

Kanchenjunga, Close Up

The ultimate reward is the mountain panorama from Dzongri and Dzongri Top. On clear days, the mighty Kanchenjunga massif, along with Pandim, Kabru and surrounding Himalayan peaks, dominates the horizon.

Beyond the Crowds

We believe the Himalayas should be experienced on foot, at a natural pace. Our Dzongri journey takes you through quiet forests, mountain settlements and open alpine landscapes where the character of the Himalayas reveals itself gradually.

Responsible Himalayan Travel

We encourage responsible trekking practices that respect the mountain environment and local communities. From minimizing waste to respecting local culture and trails, we aim to leave the Himalayas as we found them.

A Personal Trekking Experience

We focus on genuine experiences rather than simply ticking destinations off a list. Whether it is a quiet forest walk, a conversation with local people or your first view of Kanchenjunga at sunrise, we make space for the moments that stay with you.

With gradual altitude gain, changing Himalayan landscapes and magnificent views of Khangchendzonga, the trek offers an authentic high-altitude experience for travellers looking to explore Sikkim on foot.

BEST TIME TO TREK

SPRING - MARCH TO MAY : Spring brings fresh greenery and blooming rhododendrons to the mountain forests, making this one of the most scenic periods on the trail.

AUTUMN - OCTOBER TO NOVEMBER : Autumn generally offers crisp mountain conditions and excellent visibility of the surrounding Himalayan peaks.

MONSOON :  Heavy rainfall can make trails wet and slippery and may increase the risk of landslides. Sikkim Tourism specifically advises avoiding the monsoon period for travel in this region.
